INSIDE PERSPECTIVES:
“I am absolutely convinced that student performance is about expectations - those we have for our students and equally as important, those we have for ourselves.” ~ Terry Myers, CMS Superintendent. ~~ "We are the proud 6th graders who were having so much fun throughtout the past several weeks, we didn't even realize we had learned SO much!" ~ Nicolas, 6th grader at Ranchvale Elementary. ~~ "Be the one that makes your family, your school, and your community proud." ~ Wayne Marshall, CHS Principal. ~~ "Service is the rent we pay for being. It is the very purpose of life and not something you do in your spare time." ~ Marian Wright Edelman. ~~ On the last day of school at La Casita Elementary, having just distributed student summer reading logs, Principal Dr. Martinez asked students what their summer plans were; 1st grader, Angel, shouted, "LEER!" ["Read!" in English]. ~~ "A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops." ~ Henry B. Adams. ~~ "Remember who you are and where you come from; you will always be a Wildcat. Don't let the world decide who you will be; you decide who you will be." ~ Wayne Marshall, CHS Principal. ~~ "Education is what survives when what has been learned has been forgotten." ~ B.F. Skinner  ~~ "CHS graduation was great! Our senior speakers gave some of the top speeches I've heard!" ~ Pam Cornelison, CHS Head Counselor. ~~ "The greatest sign of success for a teacher…is to be able to say, 'The children are now working as if I did not exist.'" ~ Maria Montessori. ~~ "Teaching isn't the 3 months you get out of it, it is the 9 months you put into it!" ~ Sylvia Martinez, Ph.D., Principal, La Casita Elementary. ~~ "It must be remembered that the purpose of education is not to fill the minds of students with facts…it is to teach them to think." ~ Robert Hutchins. ~~ "Prejudices, it is well known, are most difficult to eradicate from the heart whose soil has never been loosened or fertilized by education." ~ Charlotte Bronte. ~~ In an aside to a new student: "Don't ever say anything is too hard in here; Mrs. Hedeman (Zia Elementary gifted teacher) will say we can DO hard things!" ~ Jocelyn, 3rd grader.

August 2013:  All students in the Clovis Municipal School district will have access to free breakfast during the 2013-2014 school year under a pilot program sponsored by CMS and its Student Nutrition department.

Regardless of whether a student has full, reduced or free meal status, breakfast will be provided at no cost. Students will be asked to enter their meal pin number when they receive their breakfast, however this is strictly for accounting purposes and no charges will be placed on their accounts.

Recognizing the importance of breakfast and striving to increase the health and productivity of students by ensuring they start each day with a nutritious meal, the 2013-2014 school year will serve as a trial period for the program.

Approved by the CMS Board of Education July 23, 2013, the pilot program is intended to exclusively serve the students of Clovis schools. Teachers and adults will still be required to pay for breakfast at a price of $1.60 per meal.

For further information or questions about the Free Breakfast pilot program at CMS, contact Student Nutrition at 769-4325.
